EPRA Increases Fuel Prices for January and February

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new fuel prices of Petrol, Kerosene, and Diesel for the period between January 15 and February 14, 2025.

EPRA in its monthly review report released on Tuesday, January 14, announced that the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene (IK) increased by Ksh0.29, Ksh2 and Ksh3 respectively.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene increase by Ksh0.29, 2.00 and 3.00 respectively. In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will retail at Ksh176.58, 167.06 and 151.39 effective midnight,” a statement from EPRA read in part. 

“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.”

Global Oil Prices Increase

EPRA’s prices come after the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) announced that international oil prices remained stable during the week ending January 10, 2025.

In its weekly report on January 10, CBK stated that the price of Murban oil rose slightly to USD77.75 per barrel on January 9 from USD77.12 per barrel on January 2.

During the week ending January 2, the price of Murban oil had increased to USD76.31 from USD 74.19 on December 24, 2024.

CBK explained that the rise in international oil prices during the week was largely reflecting easing of concerns over oil demand in China and draw-down of US oil inventories.

In its December report, EPRA announced that the maximum allowable pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene would be reduced by Ksh4.37, 3.00 and 3.00 respectively.

The maximum retail prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene were capped at Ksh176.29, Ksh165.06, and Ksh148.39 per litre respectively, for the cycle. in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, in Mombasa, Super Petrol was set to retail at Ksh173.05, Diesel at Ksh161.82, and Kerosene at Ksh145.15 per litre.

The Petroleum regulatory authority had in its November review announced that the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene would remain unchanged.

Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene in Nairobi retailed at Ksh180.66, Ksh168.06, and Ksh151.39, respectively.

In its October report, EPRA reduced the maximum allowable pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene by Ksh8.18, Ksh3.54, and Ksh6.93 per litre.
