Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has urged them to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, emphasizing that voting for any other candidate would amount to “wasting” their votes. The governor’s statement came during his second-term inauguration at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra’s capital.

Soludo, who was re-elected for a second term as governor, used the occasion to deliver a message he framed as crucial for the future political landscape of the region and the nation at large.

He pointed out that while many Igbos feel sidelined in the nation’s political space, a united, pragmatic approach in 2027 would be beneficial for the South-East and Nigeria as a whole.

“We have seen how important it is to secure a seat at the table of power,” Soludo said during his speech. “In the coming elections, we must not waste our votes. It is time to embrace the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, who has shown a commitment to uniting the country and ensuring the growth of all regions, including the South-East.”

He went on to say that the time had come for Igbos to look beyond regional sentiments and consider the broader national interest. “Supporting Tinubu is not about abandoning our identity or heritage; it’s about strengthening Nigeria and ensuring that our people are not left behind,” Soludo added.

The governor’s statement is seen as a significant political endorsement for the incumbent president, who is expected to run for re-election in 2027.

Soludo’s remarks also come as a contrast to the growing political movements in the South-East, where several groups have been advocating for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction.

Governor Soludo’s call for unity in supporting Tinubu could signal a shift in the South-East’s political landscape, where Igbos have traditionally shown allegiance to various political parties.

His endorsement is expected to stir debates across the region as it opens the floor for discussions on the role of the South-East in the country’s future.

While some political analysts believe this move is aimed at solidifying Soludo’s own political influence ahead of the 2027 election, others view it as a pragmatic step to ensure the region’s participation in national governance.

The governor concluded his speech by appealing for peace and cooperation across party lines, urging the South-East to remain focused on long-term national prosperity.

“We have to be strategic and forward-thinking,” Soludo urged. “The South-East has much to gain from Tinubu’s leadership. We need to support him for the good of Nigeria.”

Soludo’s remarks are expected to have wide-ranging implications for the political dynamics of the South-East, as the region prepares for another highly anticipated election cycle. The coming months will reveal whether his call will resonate with voters or spark dissent within the region.
