DJI’s Neo 2 Selfie Drone Now Launching Globally — But Still Not Coming to the US

After launching exclusively in China last month, DJI has officially announced wider global availability for its Neo 2 selfie drone. The compact camera drone will now be sold in regions like Japan, Canada, the UK, and several other international markets.

However, the company confirmed that the Neo 2 will not be sold in the United States, similar to the Mavic 4 Pro and the Osmo 360 camera. According to DJI, the decision comes from “adjusted market strategies” based on evolving US industry conditions.

Why the Neo 2 Still Skips the US Market

In a statement to The Verge, DJI emphasized that it remains committed to US customers but has had to rethink where and how certain products are released. While the drone won’t be sold officially through DJI’s US website, third-party stores may still carry it (as seen with other DJI models).

However, DJI did not confirm whether warranty claims will be supported for US purchases. Instead, buyers are advised to contact DJI Support first to see if a repair request qualifies.

Key Upgrades in the DJI Neo 2

The Neo 2 packs several upgrades compared to its predecessor, making it more powerful and user-friendly for content creators:

1. Lidar-Based Obstacle Avoidance

The drone now uses lidar sensors to detect obstacles and avoid crashes—an impressive addition for a lightweight, consumer-friendly drone.

2. Faster Subject Tracking

The Neo 2 can now follow subjects at speeds of up to 27mph, making action shots smoother and more dynamic.

3. Better Wind Resistance

DJI improved stability and resistance to wind, ensuring safer flights in outdoor environments.

4. Enhanced Gesture Controls

Users can now adjust the drone’s position and distance without a controller, thanks to new gesture-based commands.

5. Optional Controller Support

For those who prefer traditional controls, an antenna/controller can be attached—though it’s not required for autonomous flying.

Battery Life and Weight

  • Weight: 151 grams (without the optional digital transceiver)
  • Flight Time: Up to 19 minutes

This makes the Neo 2 extremely portable while still offering reasonable flight duration for quick shoots.

Global Pricing for the DJI Neo 2

Here’s how pricing looks in various regions:

  • China: ¥1,499 (≈ $211)
  • Canada: $229 USD (before tax)
  • Europe: €239
  • UK: £209 (tax included)
  • Japan: ¥38,390 (≈ $248)

DJI clarified that these prices should not be used to estimate a US price, since the drone isn’t being released officially in the US.

What This Means for Drone Enthusiasts

The Neo 2 offers a powerful blend of portability, smart controls, and upgraded safety features clearly aimed at vloggers, travelers, and creators who want an easy-to-use drone.

But the ongoing absence of new DJI products in the US continues to highlight the complex regulatory environment in the region.

For everyone else across Europe, Canada, and Asia, however, the Neo 2 looks like one of the most accessible and feature-packed selfie drones of 2025.
