Devastating Flood in Taraba Community Claims Life and Decimates Homes and Farms

Authorities in Taraba State have confirmed the tragic loss of life as a flood wreaked havoc on Nguroje community in Sardauna local government council, sweeping away one person.

The flood, a result of heavy rainfall over the weekend, struck shortly after a recent windstorm ravaged several houses in Takum local government council.

Aside from the fatality from the flood, another individual is missing and numerous homes have been destroyed.

Residents in the affected community recounted to NewsNow over the phone how the prolonged rainstorm not only displaced many households but also washed away vast expanses of farmland.

In response to the disaster, Nelson Lens, the representative of the area in the state House of Assembly, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident.

Emphasizing that such an event was unprecedented in the area, Lens highlighted the importance of constructing waterways in the community to prevent future calamities.

The deceased has been identified as Gomma Sadiq, and efforts are underway to locate the missing individual.

Community members who verified the incident urged the state government and the North East Development Commission, NEDC, to provide assistance to the victims.

Currently, public spaces such as schools, places of worship, and the homes of relatives have been transformed into shelters for the displaced individuals.
