Day of His Power 2026: 32 regional centres, thousands of voices, together as one in prayer

Tonight (Friday August 7), as the first notes of worship rang out in Faith Community Baptist Church’s (FCBC) Touch Centre from where Salt&Light reported, over a thousand believers from different churches rose to their feet, ready for a night of thanksgiving and prayer.

Fittingly, the theme for this year’s 40.Days of Prayer was “Together”. DOHP being the culmination of the prayer season, tonight Singapore saw true togetherness across the island, as multitudes of believers at 32 different regional centres conducted the same prayer service. This year the annual Day of His Power (DOHP) saw the most number of regional centres – 32 – in its 31-year history.

DOHP, organised by unity movement Love Singapore, is the annual closing event for the 40.Day Prayer season leading up towards National day.

For more than three decades, this gathering has brought together Christians across churches, denominations and languages to seek God for the Nation.

This year, the first Cantonese DOHP service will be held at Grace Assembly of God @Tanglin on Saturday, August 8. Reflecting the 40.Day mission to win the youth, the first Youth DOHP was held tonight at International Community School.

Aside from these new services, this year’s DOHP reprised the bilingual, Hokkien, Tamil and special needs friendly services introduced in 2025.

Across the 32 centres, the message of the night was clear: The Church of Singapore was coming together to pray our Nation.

Pastor Jeff Chong, Chairman of Love Singapore, emphasised the importance of unity in prayer. “For the nation to be impacted, we must pray as a nation. For the Church to be transformed, we must pray as a Church.”

Praying in unity

The evening opened with a video address from Pastor Jeff Chong and his wife Pastor Claudia Chong. Together, they encouraged believers to trust in the power of prayer in community.

“When we pray together, we stay aligned. We stay united. And we stay on mission… prayer is the mightiest instrument God has placed in our hands.”

Ps Chen Jer Shih of Church of Singapore highlighted the significance of having believers from different backgrounds praying in unity during DOHP.

“It is happening in many centres in Singapore, mobilising more believers to pray for Singapore. The theme of togetherness is much needed if we want to see God move in our nation.

“With one heart, prayer will ascend like incense to God from all parts of Singapore. And God will incline His ear and turn His face to us.”

Turning Singapore Godward

At FCBC, Pastor Poh Wee Long pressed home the point that in order to turn Singapore Godward, we must first turn Godward ourselves. He called for believers to rekindle their hunger for His Word and their passion for the Gospel message.

Those gathered to pray bowed their heads in repentance, asking God to remove any pridefulness that has divided the body of Christ.

They prayed next for reconciliation across families, churches, denominations and ethnic groups — recognising that a united Church is a powerful witness to the nation.

Sharing from Ephesians 6:20, Pastor Wee Long then encouraged the Church to preach the Gospel fearlessly.

“Don’t be a Singaporean in this context – don’t be paiseh. Don’t be ashamed [of the Gospel].”

Believers in FCBC prayed for one another, declaring that God’s people would be released into their workplaces, schools, and neighbourhoods as ambassadors for Christ.

Simultaneously, at Bethesda Bedok Tampines Church, Pastor Edric Sng made reference to the 2025 General Household Survey which revealed that more Singaporeans were turning away from religion.

At BBTC, Ps Edric Sng used the findings of the recent GHS to underscore the importance of turning Singapore Godward.

The people prayed for those who have yet to encounter God and those who have turned away, asking God to draw them back and turn Singapore’s hearts towards Him.

Before plans and action, the battle begins in prayer. Ps Jeff Chong emphasised that such a revival must begin with simple dependence on God. “Revival in Singapore does not begin with evangelism or discipleship. It begins on our knees,” he told Salt&Light.

Winning the youth

This year’s DOHP placed strong emphasis on winning the next generation for Jesus.

At the first Youth DOHP held at International Community School (ICS), Ps Jeff, Ps Eugene Seow (former Executive Director of Touch Community Services) and Ps Zac Zhang of Hearts Alive Church were present to pray and encourage the youth.

Over at FCBC, Pastor Charmaine Cheong expressed a real concern for the youths of Singapore.

“We are living in a generation with more access to information than any generation before,” she said.

“Yet with so many voices competing for their attention, many young people are finding it harder to discern what is from God, and what is not… they may even lose interest in the things of God.”

Tonight, believers across Singapore lifted their prayers over the youth and children of Singapore – that they would encounter God in a deep and intimate way and walk with Him from a young age.

Young believers prayed for a mighty revival to take place in their schools, campuses, and National Service forces. They also prayed that churches and ministry leaders would believe in the next generation and disciple them well.

In recognition of their importance, educators and personnel within National Service forces were invited to stand. With hands outstretched towards these, the surrounding believers petitioned for them to use their influence to positively impact the youths in their institutions.

Blessing the nations

The calling of the Singapore Church cannot stop at its own shores. Believers across the island contended tonight for Singapore to live up to its calling as an Antioch of Asia and to bless the nations.

Gathering in groups, believers prayed for more missionaries to rise up and be sent to the nations; for local mission efforts to flourish, and for the missionaries that are already in the field.

At Zion Bishan Bible-Presbyterian Church, Pastor Ng Zhiwen placed a special spotlight on the suffering Church, exhorting believers to pray for Christians facing persecution across the world.

Addressing FCBC, Rev Roland Lee challenged the believers gathered to ask the Lord for a specific nation upon their hearts.

He urged believers to pray about being sent if the Lord has called them to these nations.

“We are living in urgent days. And the Lord needs many more of us to go forth,” he said.

Many churches, many voices, one prayer

“Let’s focus on praying as one Body in Christ, rather than on the language used. Let’s pray in one tongue, one mind and one hope for our country,” said Ps Chin Yan Chong of Geylang Chinese Methodist Church.

Pastor Daniel Khong of FCBC told Salt&Light: “My prayer is that churches in Singapore will never give up coming together in unity to pray for and love Singapore.”

Indeed, across the island of Singapore tonight, the Singapore Church was the very picture of togetherness, united in prayer.

At the close of the night, the Singapore flag was displayed as the Christians gathered sang the National Anthem of Singapore, in celebration and thanksgiving for the nation’s 61st birthday.
