Day 5 — Growing Into Christ

JULY — DAY 5: Growing Into Christ

Date: July 5, 2026

Focus Scripture:

“Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
— Colossians 1:28 (KJV)

What You Will Walk Away With:

  • Goal of growth — The goal of spiritual growth is Christlikeness
  • Character formation — God is forming the character of Christ in every believer
  • Measure of maturity — Spiritual maturity is measured by conformity to Christ, not religious activity

Devotional:

The purpose of the Christian life is far greater than simply gaining biblical knowledge or becoming more active in ministry. God’s ultimate desire is that believers become increasingly like His Son.

Paul declares that the aim of preaching, teaching, and spiritual instruction is to present every believer “perfect in Christ Jesus.” The word “perfect” speaks of maturity or completeness. It describes believers who are continually growing into the fullness of who they are in Christ.

From the moment of salvation, God begins a transforming work within His children. Through the Holy Spirit, He patiently shapes their thoughts, desires, attitudes, and actions to reflect the life of Jesus.

This transformation is not about creating a better version of ourselves. It is about allowing the life of Christ to be increasingly expressed through us. The Christian life is Christ living His life in and through the believer.

Growing into Christ requires both truth and grace. God’s Word reveals His will, while His grace supplies the power to obey. The Holy Spirit takes what belongs to Christ and continually works it into the believer’s life.

This process often involves correction, encouragement, and spiritual refinement. God lovingly exposes attitudes, habits, and patterns that do not reflect Christ, not to condemn us, but to transform us.

As believers yield to the Holy Spirit, the fruit of Christ’s life becomes increasingly evident. Love replaces selfishness, humility overcomes pride, forgiveness triumphs over bitterness, and peace settles anxious hearts.

Christ-Centered Focus:

Growing into Christ also changes how believers relate to others. The more they become like Jesus, the more they serve with compassion, speak with grace, forgive freely, and love sincerely. Spiritual maturity is therefore not measured by how much someone knows, how long they have been a Christian, or how busy they are in ministry. True maturity is measured by how clearly the character of Christ is seen in daily life.

Conclusion:

God is committed to completing the work He has begun. Every season, every lesson, and every circumstance can become part of His gracious process of conforming believers to the image of His Son. Ultimately, spiritual growth is Christ being formed in the believer until His life becomes increasingly visible to the world. The more we know Christ, the more we become like Him.

Prayer:

Father, continue forming the character of Christ within me. Help me to yield to the Holy Spirit each day so that my life reflects the love, humility, and holiness of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Declaration:

I DECLARE:

  • Christ is being formed in me.
  • The Holy Spirit is transforming my character.
  • I grow daily into the likeness of Jesus.
  • My life reflects the grace and love of Christ.

Action Points:

  • Ask God to reveal areas where He desires to shape your character
  • Allow Scripture to transform your attitudes and decisions
  • Intentionally reflect the character of Christ in your daily relationships
