Day 34: Together for Missions

Bible reading for 40.Day 2026 | Matthew 24:14 

My dear brothers and sisters, this is the best time to be a missional Christian in Singapore. Our little country, the Little Red Dot, has the most credibility. The rankings keep going higher and higher. Whether it’s governance, whether it’s education, whether it’s health care, whether it’s honesty, our rankings keep going up. 

Reasons why Singapore is set up for missions 

1.  Credibility

In simple words, this little city, this little nation, has huge credibility. And we are like the light that can shine into the world. We are like that little city set on a hill. (Matthew 5:14-16)

2. Communication

God has blessed us too with the ability to communicate. For most of us, we speak one of the two major languages of the world. For me, a yellow-skinned man, I speak English as my mother tongue. That’s pretty strange, but thank God for that colonial heritage. 

For many others, Chinese is their mother tongue, and that covers a large part of the world. For others Bahasa Indonesia, Tamil, Telugu, and more. 

Not only can we speak the language, but we can speak it effectively, because we live in a cultural place that trains us cross-culturally.

And one second, I’m speaking to a Burmese in English. I then turn to a Filipino, and I speak English to the Filipino. And then I turn to the right, and there’s an Australian, and I speak English to this Australian. And the same with Chinese. I could speak Chinese to a Singaporean-Chinese, Indonesian-Chinese, Mainland Chinese. 

We are trained cross-culturally. We don’t need to go to a cross-cultural school. We live in a mini-Asia, a mini-world.

3. Connectivity

If we want to reach anywhere – not just with our words but if we want to actually go there and shake hands and hug people – we are connected. Just go to Changi Airport, two hops and you’re in almost any major city in the world. 

You carry the best passport. You don’t need to go and hassle for a visa.

And if you don’t even feel like travelling, you probably have the best Internet connection in the world. Your Zoom is good 24/7. You can go a million times faster than Apostle Paul. You can travel 1,000 times farther than him. You can disciple 100 times more effectively than him, without even leaving your bedroom.

Some tectonic shifts are taking place globally. The moral centre is no longer the US. Where will it move to? I think Singapore. I don’t think that’s an absurd statement; I think we are the Antioch for this century.

The Bible tells us one amazing truth, Matthew 24:14. “And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

We are living in the most exciting times, in the most exciting place, with the greatest project in the world – the last-lap runners for the greatest relay race in history. You know it’s always great to be the last-lap runner. 

What we need to do, brothers and sisters, is to unite.

I believe one little church and another little church doesn’t need to be two, one and one can be 20. One plus one plus one can be 300 if we will unite. If we will dream big, this Gospel is going to spread like never before throughout the whole world. It’s a promise: And then we’ll usher in the glorious return of Jesus Christ.

Are we ready as Singaporeans? Let’s unite! Let’s dream big. Together, we can do a lot more for missions.

Let us pray.

Lord, we thank You for this opportunity to live in this wonderful city. In this glorious time when we will possibly be the last-lap runners of the greatest relay race ever. Help us God, to grasp the situation, to grasp the opportunity and to unite together as Christians in this country. Help us God, we need You. Too much baggage, too much disunity. Help us to be together for missions.

We pray in Jesus’ name, amen!

1. When we talk about “missions”, what comes to our mind?

2. We are living in the “last-lap” days – how will we proclaim the Gospel to all the world?

3. Will we unite as the Body of Christ in Singapore to dream big and spread the Good News faster and further than ever before? 

Pray:

1. That we will make full use of Singapore’s many advantages – credibility, communication and connectivity – for missions.

2. That we wake up to the truth that we are the “last-lap runners” in the greatest race in the world to win the lost for Christ.

3. That our churches will unite and spread the Word.
