CAS Receives Senegal’s Appeal Against CAF’s AFCON Ruling

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that the Senegalese Football Federation has formally appealed the Confederation of African Football’s decision to revoke Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The appeal was submitted on Tuesday, March 25, with the federation seeking “to set aside the CAF decision and declare the FSF winners of AFCON.” In addition, the FSF requested an immediate suspension of the deadline to submit an appeal brief until they receive the CAF decision with full grounds.

A CAS Arbitral Panel will be appointed to handle the case, after which a procedural calendar will be established to guide the proceedings.

CAS Director General, Matthieu Reeb, assured that the court is prepared to manage the dispute efficiently.

“CAS is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute, with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators. We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision, and we will ensure that arbitration proceedings are conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing,” he said.

The development means Senegal’s AFCON status will remain in limbo until the arbitration process concludes.
