British Grandma Freed After 12 Years on Death Row in Indonesia for Drug Trafficking

A British grandmother, Lindsay Sandiford, who spent 12 years on death row in Indonesia for drug trafficking, has finally been returned to the United Kingdom.

Lindsay, now in her late 60s, was sentenced to death in 2013 after authorities found $2.14 million worth of cocaine concealed in a false bottom of her suitcase upon her arrival from Thailand.

She claimed she smuggled the drugs because a drug syndicate had threatened to kill her son, forcing her into compliance.

In 2015, Sandiford wrote to The Mail, saying:”My execution is imminent, and I know I might die at any time now. I could be taken tomorrow from my cell.

“I have started to write goodbye letters to members of my family.

After over a decade behind bars at Kerobokan Prison, she was released and repatriated to the UK alongside another British national, Shahab Shahabadi.

During her imprisonment, Lindsay reportedly spent her time knitting clothes and toys for her grandchildren, charities, and local church groups.
