Ingredients in a Blue Lagoon

• Vodka – Choose a quality, unflavored vodka. 
• Blue Curacao – A popular Caribbean liqueur that tastes like triple sec and is known for its bright blue color. 
• Lemonade – For sweetness and tropical flavor. 
• Lemon Wheel – As garnish 
• Maraschino Cherry – As garnish.

How to make a Blue Lagoon Drink

In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine the vodka, blue curacao and lemonade.

Shake for 10-15 seconds until well chilled. 

Strain and pour into a glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon slice and a maraschino cherry.

History of the Blue Lagoon Cocktail

The blue lagoon cocktail first gained popularity back in the 1970s, not long after blue curacao (a blue colored liqueur similar to triple sec) was introduced during the 1960s. Legend has it that the Blue Lagoon was first mixed by Andy MacElhone (son of famed bartender Harry MacElhone) at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in the 1960s or early 1970s. In 1980, a movie of the same name came out, creating even more name recognition for this popular drink. Because of the origin, this would be a great drink to serve at a ’70s-themed party.
