Anthony Joshua considers investing in English football club

British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua is exploring the possibility of investing in Watford FC, the EFL Championship club based in his hometown.

The 35-year-old, who still resides in the area, is considering acquiring a financial stake in the team. Over the course of his successful boxing career, Joshua has reportedly earned around $110 million and is now shifting focus toward long-term investment opportunities.

Speaking with Seconds Out, the two-time world heavyweight champion revealed his interest in private equity and venture capital, explaining, “We wanted to move into private equity, venture capital funds.”

He added: “As you earn, naturally you want to save, so rather than me spending recklessly I’m trying to invest money into certain asset classes — and that [Watford] was an opportunity that presented itself.”

While talks are ongoing, Joshua noted that nothing has been finalised yet. “Nothing’s come of it yet. It’s a serious investment. If it comes off, it’s one that should do well.”

He went on to describe the local buzz around the club, saying, “If they went back to the Premier League, then I’d need to get a shop on Market Street because the traffic that would be coming through Watford would be phenomenal.”

Although not a devoted football fan, Joshua appreciates the community spirit the club brings: “I’m not a massive football fan myself, but watching the fans stream down Market Street and into Vicarage Road — those were great scenes. If we don’t do it, then good luck to them anyway because they’re a great team.”
