Anichebe slams NFF after Super Eagles miss out on 2026 World Cup

Former Nigeria international Victor Anichebe has criticised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles were edged out 4-3 on penalties by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African playoffs final on Sunday night, ending their hopes of reaching the global tournament.

Anichebe pointed the blame firmly at the NFF, expressing his frustration in a social media post.

“Real change demands selflessness, long-term thinking, and building foundations that won’t produce instant rewards,” Anichebe wrote on his Instagram page.

“If we want serious outcomes, we must start having serious conversations that lead to serious decisions.”

With their World Cup dream over, the Super Eagles will now turn their focus to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to kick off next month in Morocco.
