The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Senate of deliberately delaying the passage of the Electoral Bill 2025 to sabotage electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Saturday by its national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party warned that delays to amendments of the Electoral Act 2022 could pose serious compliance and eligibility risks if not passed in good time.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is deeply concerned by the continued prevarications by the National Assembly over the 2025 Electoral Bill,” the party said, adding that the delay raises suspicions of “deliberate delay tactics to frustrate key amendments” aimed at credible elections.

ADC said mandatory electronic voter accreditation and result transmission were minimum safeguards for the 2027 polls and warned that unclear guidelines could become “booby traps for opposition political parties” and hinder INEC’s preparations.
