Approval has been granted by the Yobe State Government for the setup of three weather stations that will aid in combating the impacts of climate change.

During a briefing with journalists following the State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego revealed this development.

Highlighting the details, Bego stated, “The Council has greenlit the establishment of three weather stations in Damaturu, Machina, and Gulani LGAs to address climate and agricultural concerns, with an estimated cost of N189.9 million.”

In addressing healthcare matters, the commissioner announced the launch of the Local Government Area Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge aimed at enhancing Primary Health Care services at the community level.

Commenting on this initiative, he mentioned, “The LGA PHC Leadership Challenge has been kickstarted and is being managed by UNICEF, supported by funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and supervised by the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.”

He added, “The LGA PHC Leadership Challenge is one of 12 criteria for recognition that could be presented to the state against the backdrop of all 36 states of the federation, provided that LGAs adhere to particular activity indicators geared towards advancing Primary Health Care at the grassroots level.”

The Council additionally authorized a proposal suggesting the allocation of a monetary prize to the local government that performs the best at zonal and state levels.

Chaired by the State Deputy Governor, this was the inaugural State Executive Council meeting convened in 2024.
