Savannah, Georgia — The World Trade Center, Savannah on Thursday, January 29, 2026, hosted an honorary reception in recognition of Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Victor Emmanuel Smith, bringing together business leaders, community stakeholders and members of the Ghanaian diaspora.

The event, held at the World Trade Center, Savannah on Drayton Street, was graced by the Mayor of Savannah, Georgia, Mayor Van R. Johnson II.

The Mayor honoured His Excellency Victor Smith by handing him the Key to the city of Savannah as a symbol of trust and friendship.

Mayor Johnson II, during the Key of Trust ceremony, said this tradition, originating from medieval times, implies the city’s trust in H.E Victior Smith and his vision which resonates with theirs, symbolizing strong ties between the local government and the Ambassador.

Ambassador Smith appears to be the first Ambassador to have received this Key. Historical examples include civic and cultural figures and notable individuals such as musician Doc Cheatham.

Programs and Community Development Manager at the World Trade Center Savannah, Antwone Mohammed, said the Greater Savannah Ghana Business Forum stands as a powerful platform for forging partnerships that connect local content in Ghana with global markets, strengthening economic ties and unlocking new opportunities for both sides.

He added that the team is focused on establishing strong ties and encouraging more Ghanaians in the diaspora to go back home to help in development the of the country. He stressed the World Trade Center Savannah’s commitment to fostering international trade relations and strengthening engagement with Ghana and its diplomatic mission in the United States.

The highlight of the evening was remarks by Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith, during which he engaged guests on Ghana’s economic outlook, investment opportunities and the importance of collaboration between Ghana and international partners, particularly within the trade and investment space.
