A 38-year-old woman, Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, defended her decision to use a hot pressing iron on her househelp’s back, stating that it was a form of discipline for the child.

Identifying herself as a nurse from Ezinifitte, Aguata Local Government Area, the woman explained that the househelp had allegedly stolen her money.

In an attempt to get the child to confess to the theft, she heated a pressing iron on a stove and applied it to the child’s back.

After her arrest, Mrs. Nzekwe admitted her actions to officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, headed by Commissioner Ify Obinabo.

During her confession to the commissioner, she expressed her frustration, stating, “All the suffering I have been going through because of this boy. I just had surgery, and I came back home and found money missing. I didn’t plug the iron into electricity, I just placed it on the stove to discipline him.”

The victim, identified as her 13-year-old nephew, reportedly faced additional mistreatment as he was often locked up at home without food.

Commissioner Obinabo assured that Nzekwe would be prosecuted, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated in Anambra State.

Subsequently, the suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
