Why I didn’t watch Man Utd’s penalty shootout loss to Grimsby – Amorim

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has explained why he chose not to watch their penalty shoot-out defeat against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

United were knocked out in the second round after a dramatic 2-2 draw in normal time, with Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scoring in the second half to pull Amorim’s side level.

The match went to spot-kicks, where a marathon shootout saw 26 penalties taken before the League Two side advanced to the third round.

Despite the high stakes, Amorim appeared disinterested on the sidelines. Asked about his decision, he said, “The penalty shootout is not important.

“If I’m there trying to see if we win the game… it doesn’t matter.

“The signs, the beginning of the game, during the game, that is what matters.”
