'We Are Not Aware' - Police Denies Abduction Of 150 Persons In Sokoto

The Sokoto State command of the Nigeria Police Force has stated that they are unaware of the abduction of over one hundred and fifty individuals in the state.

It was alleged that the kidnapping incident happened in Sabon Birni region shortly after the brutal murder of Sarkin Gobir Gatawa, Isa Muhammad Bawa.

In an interview with Radio France International (RFI) Hausa on Saturday, Professor Bello Bada from Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto indicated that the kidnapping incidents took place between the time of the late Emir’s death and the previous Friday.

He further attributed the issue of banditry to a variety of contributing factors.

The academic noted that while attacks on prominent leaders are not unprecedented, this marks the first instance of an Emir being violently killed.

Conversely, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, told Daily Trust via telephone that the police do not know about the reported abductions.

He explained that the police can only verify incidents that have been officially reported, and in this case, no such report has been made, leaving them without any information on the matter.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the Sabon Birni area and other regions within the Sokoto East Senatorial district are experiencing significant security challenges, with many residents feeling threatened and hesitant to report incidents to law enforcement agencies.
