The Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has criticized Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, over her perceived silence following the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, stating that she failed to demonstrate the compassion expected of a mother and national figure during a period of crisis.

Speaking amid growing concerns over insecurity and the fate of abducted pupils and school officials in Oyo State, Ayodele drew comparisons between the current situation and the 2014 abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls. According to him, former First Lady Patience Jonathan publicly showed concern and empathy during the Chibok crisis, despite facing criticism from some quarters. He argued that Remi Tinubu should have displayed similar concern for the abducted children and their families, even if it was merely symbolic.

The outspoken cleric expressed disappointment that while families of the abducted children were grappling with uncertainty and fear, the First Lady was reportedly engaged in political and empowerment activities. He said a motherly response would have involved publicly demanding the safe return of the children, visiting affected families, or using her office to draw national attention to their plight. Ayodele maintained that leadership is not only about governance but also about showing compassion during moments of national tragedy.

Ayodele further warned that the handling of insecurity issues by key figures within the ruling administration could negatively affect the political fortunes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to him, public perception of government officials during times of hardship and insecurity often plays a significant role in shaping electoral outcomes. He argued that failure to connect emotionally with citizens affected by insecurity could create political consequences for the ruling party.

The cleric’s remarks come amid heightened public concern over the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State and increasing calls for authorities to strengthen security measures across the country. In recent days, Ayodele has repeatedly condemned the worsening security situation, accusing political leaders of not doing enough to protect Nigerians and secure the release of abducted victims.

As reactions continue to trail the incident and comments from prominent figures, attention remains focused on efforts by security agencies and government authorities to secure the safe release of those abducted and address the broader security challenges facing the nation.
