The Assemblies of God, Ghana, has issued a firm advisory to its pastors and members, cautioning them against enrolling in or utilising qualifications obtained from unaccredited tertiary institutions.

This advisory follows a formal notice released by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Monday, October 20, 2025, which identified 50 unrecognised tertiary institutions operating without the necessary accreditation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 21, and signed by the General Superintendent of the church, Rev. Stephen Y. Wengam, the Assemblies of God urged pastors to confirm the accreditation status of any institution with GTEC prior to pursuing further studies.

“As part of efforts by the Executive Presbytery to rid the church environment of unaccredited degrees and qualifications, pastors are cautioned against enrolling in such institutions or using certificates obtained from them,” the statement read.

The church also stressed that any qualifications obtained from unaccredited institutions, including doctorates or professional certificates, would not be recognised within the Assemblies of God.

GTEC’s earlier statement, signed by its Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, clarified that the listed institutions did not meet the required accreditation and quality assurance standards, warning the public and heads of tertiary institutions against engaging with them.

The leadership of the Assemblies of God has, therefore, encouraged all pastors to exercise due diligence and maintain integrity in their pursuit of higher education.

Below are some unaccredited universities GTEC has published.
