“Unfavorable situation” for Chelsea Football Club as Mauricio Pochettino confirms a key player will be unavailable for the Everton game.

Christopher Nkunku could feature for the first time in competitive action for Chelsea this weekend against Everton. The France international’s knee injury picked up in pre-season was serious and despite returning to training over the November international break, he is yet to appear in a matchday squad.

Ahead of the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed he would not be in the squad with his update hinting any involvement could still be some way off. “No. Hope [he’s back] soon,” he told reporters. “He is not involved tomorrow. I think it is like we always tell you, it’s about assessing day by day. Sometimes we get excited and we want to have the player as soon as possible but I think we need to be careful.”

Chelsea could have certainly done with his presence on Wednesday night with numerous great chances missed in the 2-1 defeat. Cole Palmer scored an excellent goal but Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, Mykhailo Mudryk and second half substitute Armando Broja were all guilty of missing opportunities.

Up next for the Blues is another Premier League away game this time against Everton

Their form and defensive solidity does not bode too well for a Chelsea side that often underperform their xG and enter the clash with two consecutive defeats on their travels. However, Nkunku being back available could give Chelsea a significant boost to morale while the players in attack may be feeling worried about losing their place in the starting XI.

With that said, an update has emerged on Christopher Nkunku with journalist Fabrizio Romano revealing the current feeling inside the Chelsea dressing room regarding his fitness for the weekend. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “Christopher Nkunku could be in the Chelsea squad this weekend; the feeling is optimistic, but let’s see.”

If Nkunku is back, the likes of Mudryk, Sterling and Jackson will undoubtedly be concerned about how it affects their minutes, with Palmer’s displays in recent weeks making it highly unlikely he drops out. With Conor Gallagher back from suspension, a spot on the bench for one of those aforementioned names is likely going to happen especially with how Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo struggled without the England international.
