UAE leaders review future expansion plans for Burjeel Medical City

Burjeel Medical City expansion plans were presented to UAE leaders during Make it in the Emirates 2026 in Abu Dhabi.

ABU DHABI: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited the Burjeel Holdings stand at the IHC pavilion during Make it in the Emirates 2026, where senior executives shared details about the future vision for Burjeel Medical City and the company’s integrated healthcare ecosystem.

The UAE President was accompanied during the visit by Syed Basar Shueb, Managing Director and CEO of IHC, alongside Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of VPS Health and Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, also visited the stand during the national industrial event.

During the briefing, Dr. Shamsheer outlined plans to create a next-generation healthcare ecosystem in Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi. The future development of Burjeel Medical City will combine advanced clinical care, specialised cancer treatment, medical education, scientific research and international expertise to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a centre for complex healthcare services.

Dr. Shamsheer said the moment reflected the long-term vision that began during the early years of the project, when he first introduced the original concept of Burjeel Medical City to the UAE President. The latest expansion phase now aims to transform the healthcare destination into a larger integrated platform serving patients across the region.

The expansion will cover 387,000 square metres and is designed to improve access to specialised treatments and advanced therapies within the UAE. VPS Health also announced major investments in pharmaceutical manufacturing and gene therapy initiatives, including a AED 700 million LIFEPharma expansion at KEZAD and a AED 100 million programme focused on inherited blood disorders.
