The UAE has strongly condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the raising of the Israeli flag within its courtyards.

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned and denounced the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by settlers under the protection of Israeli police, including the raising of the Israeli flag within the mosque compound.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE described the actions as a provocation and an unacceptable act of extremism. The ministry stressed the importance of respecting the historical and legal status quo of Al-Aqsa Mosque and ensuring the protection of all holy sites.

The UAE reaffirmed its support for the custodial role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in overseeing the Islamic endowments and managing the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The ministry also expressed full solidarity with Jordan and backed all measures undertaken to preserve and protect sites of religious significance.

The UAE condemnation of Al-Aqsa Mosque incidents comes amid continued concerns over tensions surrounding religious sites in Jerusalem. The ministry emphasised the need to prevent actions that could inflame regional tensions and further destabilise the situation.

The statement held Israeli authorities responsible for stopping what it described as escalatory actions and called for efforts to avoid worsening instability in the region. The UAE reiterated its firm rejection of practices that violate international legitimacy resolutions and signed agreements, warning that such actions could contribute to further escalation.

The UAE condemnation of Al-Aqsa Mosque incidents also included a renewed call for the international community to intensify diplomatic and political efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace.

According to the ministry, a sustainable solution requires the creation of a political horizon based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international law. The UAE reiterated support for the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

The ministry stressed that dialogue, respect for religious sites and adherence to international agreements remain essential for preserving regional stability and advancing prospects for peace.
