Tyla, a South African artist, emerged as one of the greatest winners at the 52nd American Music Awards in Las Vegas, taking home two major honors.

The 24-year-old sensation won the Best Afrobeats Artist category, defeating top African performers such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, and MOLIY.

Tyla also won the Social Song of the Year award for her hit song CHANEL, making her the only African artist to receive an award at this year’s event, which was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and hosted by Queen Latifah.

The singer went into the night as the most nominated African act in American Music Awards history, with four nods, including Best Female R&B Artist and Best Music Video.

Released in 2025, “CHANEL” was a huge global success, racking up millions of streams and solidifying Tyla’s burgeoning dominance in the international music industry.

The double triumph is yet another huge accomplishment for the singer, whose breakout single Water helped position her as one of Africa’s leading crossover singers.
