Two Zamfara Lawmakers Resign From APC, Give Reasons

Two members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers, Shamsudeen Hassan Basko of Talata-Mafara North Constituency and Nura Dahiru of Birnin-Magaji Constituency, submitted separate resignation letters dated December 3. Their letters were read on the House floor by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki.

Hassan explained that persistent crises, internal divisions, poor leadership, and the marginalisation of members at both state and local government levels prompted his decision to leave the APC.

He said remaining in the party no longer aligned with his personal and political convictions or the interests of his constituents.

Dahiru added that his resignation would allow him to pursue initiatives that better reflect the aspirations of the people he represents.

Both lawmakers thanked the party for the opportunities they had enjoyed and requested that their letters be treated as formal notices of exit.

Following his resignation, Dahiru officially announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.

The defections come amid the upcoming 2027 presidential elections.
