Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is currently unable to leave Qatar due to ongoing security concerns in the region, according to Soccernet.

The 32-year-old defender recently joined Al Ahli SC after departing Saudi Arabia in January. However, escalating tensions in the Gulf have led to the suspension of football activities and the temporary halt of flights, leaving him effectively stranded.

The situation follows heightened military hostilities between Iran and Israel. Iran reportedly launched strikes on strategic locations in response to attacks it attributes to the United States and Israel.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence has stated that its air defence systems intercepted incoming missiles as part of precautionary security measures. In response to the rising threat level, Qatar and several neighbouring countries temporarily closed their airspace.

As a result, numerous foreign nationals, travellers, and professional athletes, including Troost-Ekong, remain unable to depart the country until normal flight operations resume.
