Troops Intercept Cannabis-laden Vehicle In Kogi

Troops of 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Monday intercepted a vehicle carrying a large quantity of cannabis in the Agbede area of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Brigade’s Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, which was shared through NigerianArmyInfo, the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug-trafficking networks linked to banditry and other criminal activities across the state.

Lt. Abdullahi explained that the troops on patrol stopped a red Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 325LA while transporting illicit substances from Ekiti State to Borno State.

He added that the driver, identified as Hamisu Sule, attempted to flee after sighting the military checkpoint, which troops intermittently deploy along transit routes to discourage criminals from using them as trafficking corridors.

Abdullahi said the vehicle was later chased and apprehended along the Apata–Lokoja Road in Lokoja Local Government Area.

“A total of 306 parcels of Cannabis Sativa weighing 276 kilograms were recovered,” the statement revealed.

He said both the suspect and the seized items have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi Command, for further action.

“The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining a robust presence across the state, and preventing criminals from operating with impunity,” the Brigade stated.
