Troops Crush 300-Strong ISWAP Attack on Chibok

In a dramatic showdown in the early hours of Saturday, troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai successfully thwarted a massive assault by over 300 ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters targeting Chibok.

The insurgents struck around 3 a.m., hoping to breach military positions, but they were met with fierce resistance and superior firepower. After nearly two hours of intense gunfire, the attackers fled toward the Timbuktu Triangle, leaving behind significant losses.

Prompt air support from the Nigerian Air Force, including combat jets and an armed drone, turned the retreat into a disaster for the insurgents. Four major airstrikes and precise drone attacks destroyed escape routes and regrouping points, crippling their operations.

Security officials, speaking to Zagazola Makama, confirmed that the operation was “highly effective,” preventing the militants from regrouping and striking again.

The defence of Chibok, more than eleven years after the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in 2014, highlights the ongoing vigilance of Nigerian forces against persistent ISWAP threats in southern Borno. No civilian casualties were reported, and the military continues clearance operations in the area.
