The Rolling Stones set sights on smashing Madonna’s concert attendance record with new mega show at world famous venue

THE Rolling Stones are not a band to be outdone, even by Madonna.

The Queen Of Pop beat their record-breaking 2006 Copacabana gig in Brazil by 100,000, after 1.6million fans turned out to watch her perform on the beach in May.

And now insiders have told me Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are lining up a return to South America – where they could try to take back the crown.

The group are in talks with Daniel Grinbank, the man who organised their Copacabana show, for a number of massive gigs in South America next year.

A source said: “The Stones have a massive following in South America and there is potential for them to take their Hackney Diamonds tour there in 2025.

“The reception to the North America shows have been immense and Mick, Keith and Ronnie are still raring to go.

“Daniel has approached them about coming back to South America for some shows and thinks another concert at Copacabana 19 years on could see The Stones taking back the record from Madonna.

“The talks are ongoing but if anything is announced, it won’t be until the band have finished up their North America run.”

The Stones have five more dates to play in America before they will take a break.

Their next show is in Vancouver in Canada on Friday before three gigs in California and a final night in Missouri on July 21.

I met up with Ronnie on the first night of the tour in Houston, Texas, at the end of April and he admitted the group loved being on the road.

He said: “The whole tour is a party on the road.

“I really enjoy it.

“But the funny thing is, we’re just always trying to get better at what we do.”

Mick confirmed the group were in talks last month and said: “We’ll consider the offers.”

I hope they get the Copacabana gig nailed down.

I quite fancy the idea of watching Paint It Black with sand between my toes and a caipirinha cocktail in hand.
