Residents of Hanya Gada in the Jimeta area of Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, have been thrown into mourning following the brutal killing of a commercial motorcyclist by suspected robbers who allegedly made away with his motorcycle.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 9, at about 1:00 p.m. around the Landi area of Hanya Gada, according to local sources.

A commercial motorcyclist who was reportedly stabbed to death and his motorcycle stolen on Thursday, July 9.

A resident, Mr. Zacharia Bulam, told TGNEWS that two unidentified men posed as passengers shortly after the victim had dropped off students he transported from school.

According to Bulam, the suspects approached the rider and requested to be taken to Landi. However, during the journey, they allegedly attacked him, stabbing him and slitting his throat before fleeing with his motorcycle, which was reportedly purchased only three months ago.

“The two men pretended to be passengers. Immediately after he dropped the students he brought from school, they asked him to take them to Landi. After he carried them, they stabbed him, slit his throat, and took away his new bike,” Bulam said.

He added that arrangements were being made to convey the deceased’s body to Madagali for burial.

The killing has heightened fears among residents, particularly commercial motorcyclists operating in the area. Bulam revealed that another motorcyclist reportedly lost his motorcycle to suspected criminals in the same vicinity last week.

“This is what is happening around this area,” he lamented, urging residents and workers around Hanya Gada and Landi to remain vigilant and security-conscious.

Confirming the incident, the Adamawa State Police Command said it had received a report and had commenced efforts to track down those responsible.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, stated that operatives were already investigating the case.

“Yes, we received the report, and our men are making efforts to arrest the suspects,” he said.

The tragic incident has renewed concerns over the safety of commercial motorcyclists and residents in parts of Jimeta, with community members calling for increased security patrols and stronger measures to tackle violent crime in the area.
