Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one place to 45th in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday.

The three-time African champions were ranked 44th in July, having slipped from 43rd the previous month, continuing a downward trend.

Their latest slide follows an unconvincing run of results in September — a narrow win over Rwanda in Uyo and a costly draw against South Africa, which saw them lose crucial ground among Africa’s elite.

As a result, AFCON holders Côte d’Ivoire have leapfrogged Nigeria into the continent’s top five, earning 0.45 ranking points compared to the Super Eagles’ loss of 0.4.

The Super Eagles will now be aiming to arrest their slide and build momentum in upcoming fixtures as they prepare for major competitions.
