Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed his delight at the team’s impressive performance in the 4-0 win over Mozambique while urging the players to keep their focus.

Ademola Lookman led the charge with a stunning individual performance, producing one goal, and two assists to send the team to the last eight of the competition.

Victor Osimhen scored a brace while Akor Adams scored the other goal as the attackers enjoyed a goal fest in the encounter.

Chelle urged the players to be ambitious while also calling on them to be focused on the objectives in Morocco.

He said: “I’m happy about this game winning by four goals but in reality we didn’t do anything special, we just won one game. If we want to be ambitious we need to continue to improve and keep this quality on the pitch.

“My job now is to keep the players very focused about their training sessions and behaviour.”

The Malian coach also showered praises on Alex Iwobi for his impressive performances in the Nations Cup.

Chelle said: “You know some players can smell the football. Iwobi has a high IQ. He sees the game before other players, and he is technically very good.”

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman has revealed that he is not targeting the Nations top soccer award despite scoring three goals so far.

He said: “Personally I’m just thinking about the team, now we are in the quarter-finals our next opponent is going to be another strong team. We scored four goals, another big performance for the team so that’s what I care about.”

The Super Eagles will travel to Marrakech for the quarterfinals clash against Algeria or DR Congo on Saturday.
