The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Yola Judicial Division, has brought to the attention of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Yola Branch, an incident involving a fake court order served on the United Bank of Africa (UBA), Yola Main Business Office, by a member of the NBA.

In a letter dated 14th August 2024, addressed to the Chairman of the NBA Yola Branch, the Provisional Registrar of the court, Paul T. Kure, stated that the Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice J.T. Agbadu Fishim, PhD, had directed him to inform the NBA of the matter.

According to the letter, a fake Order Nisi, purported to be a court document, was served on the UBA Yola Main Business Office on the 8th of August 2024. Upon consultation with the Bank Manager, it was revealed that Barr. Ijeomul Emmanuel Tsamdu, State Counsel 1 at the Adamawa State Ministry of Justice, was the person who served the fake order.

The National Industrial Court has urged the NBA Yola Branch to look into the matter, as it involves one of their members. A copy of the fake court order was attached to the letter for reference.

This incident raises concerns about the integrity of legal processes and the conduct of legal practitioners. The NBA is expected to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the erring member, as serving fake court orders undermines the authority of the judiciary and erodes public trust in the legal system.

The Adamawa State Ministry of Justice is also likely to face scrutiny, as one of its State Counsels has been implicated in the incident. The ministry may need to review its internal processes and ensure that its legal officers adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct.
