1. Rocket-Firing Boba Fett 

To capitalize on Boba Fett’s appearance in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Kenner produced a prototype action figure with a spring-loaded rocket launcher on its back in 1979. Out of fears for children’s safety, the toy never made it to stores, and just a few were produced. The rare figure is considered the holy grail of Star Wars collectors. A Boba Fett in mint condition sold at auction in August 2024 for $1.342 million.

2. Red Leader X-Wing Starfighter Model

Built by Industrial Light & Magic, this X-wing model appeared in several scenes of 1977’s “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope,” including the iconic Death Star showdown. The model was crafted on a 1:24 scale with wings that move and working lights. Only four are known to have been created. In 2023, the on-screen miniature sold at Heritage Auctions for $3.135 million.

3. Complete R2-D2 Assembled From Movie Components

Using parts from five of the movies in the Star Wars franchise, prop makers rebuilt the lovable droid, creating a significant piece of Star Wars memorabilia. R2-D2 has no mechanical or electronic innards because the aluminum shell was filled by actor Kenny Baker, who at 3′8″ gave R2-D2 its on screen personality. This much-revered collectible sold at auction in 2017 for $2.76 million. 

4. Gold Leader Y-Wing Starfighter Model

Like the X-wing, the Y-wing Starfighter was built in the model shop of ILM and saw screen action in the Death Star trench battle sequences in 1977’s “A New Hope.” One of two Y-wing fighters created for close-up shooting of scenes surfaced decades after production of the first film wrapped. It sold at auction in 2024 for $1.55 million.

5. Han Solo’s BlasTech DL-44 Heavy Blaster

Like so many other “A New Hope” movie props, Han Solo’s blaster was presumed lost until it popped up in the inventory of the London-based prop house Bapty & Co. It is one of only three blasters made that is assumed to have survived. Presale estimates placed a sale price between $300,000 and $500,000, and the prop fetched $1.057 million.

6. Luke Skywalker Telescoping Lightsaber

Kenner captured the on-screen activation of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from “A New Hope” when it released the first line of licensed action figures from Star Wars in 1978. Unfortunately, the double-telescoping mechanism of the figure’s retractable lightsaber proved too fragile, and it was replaced with a simpler version. The original then became scarce, and with the 12-back card, which depicts the original 12 figures released, a mint-condition Luke Skywalker can command about $100,000. 

7. Jawa Vinyl Cape Figure

As part of the original Star Wars action figures released in 1978, Kenner created a Jawa with a stiff vinyl cape, only to swap it for a cloth cape shortly after release amid concerns that the original looked too cheap. The early costume change created scarcity of the original Jawa, a scavenger species from “A New Hope.” A boxed figure in near-mint condition can draw $15,000 to $30,000 at resale. 

8. Topps Series 1 Star Wars Trading Cards

If you paid $0.15 for a pack of Topps Star Wars Series 1 trading cards in 1977, that investment might have turned out extremely well for you. A complete base set — 66 cards and 11 stickers — in mint condition (graded PSA 10) can sell from $10,000 to more than $20,000. The cards with a light blue border feature Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi and more. 

9. Star Wars Scripts Signed by George Lucas and the Cast

A script of the saga must be a collectible to covet, given the demand for everything Star Wars. How about a copy signed by Star Wars creator George Lucas or cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford? Such authenticated drafts can fetch hundreds or thousands of dollars.
