Governor Chukwuma Soludo has directed the suspension of civil servants who were not at their duty posts by 10 a.m. during an unannounced visit to the state secretariat in Awka.

The governor carried out the early morning inspection to assess punctuality, discipline, and overall commitment among workers across various ministries and departments.

Speaking to journalists after the exercise, Soludo expressed concern over the number of employees absent from work despite the time already past the official resumption hour.

“I walked in office by office and found a significant number of workers not yet at work, as it was past 10 a.m. This is unacceptable,” he said.

He warned that any worker not found at their desk by 10 a.m. should face suspension without pay, stressing that indiscipline would no longer be tolerated.

Soludo further stated that the state would rid the civil service of unproductive staff, describing them as “bad eggs” that hinder efficiency.

He noted that his findings during the visit reflected “the good, the bad and the ugly,” acknowledging that while some workers were diligent, others showed poor work ethics.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a more disciplined and results-driven civil service, adding that reforms would be strictly implemented.

He also pointed out that the government has made considerable investments in upgrading infrastructure and improving working conditions, urging workers to match those efforts with dedication and productivity.
