Sokoto Govt Warns Residents Against Visiting Blast Sites Over Health Risks

The Sokoto State Government has issued a stern warning to residents of communities affected by recent explosions, urging them to avoid visiting blast sites due to serious health and safety risks.

The advisory, released by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, follows reports that residents of Jabo town rushed to the scene shortly after Thursday’s blast. The government noted that such actions could endanger both human life and the environment.

Authorities explained that areas affected by explosions often contain hazardous substances, which can cause a range of health problems. Experts cited in the statement warned that exposure to explosive residues could result in skin irritation or chemical burns, respiratory difficulties from inhaling toxic fumes, and potential poisoning from ingestion or prolonged contact with explosive materials.

In response, the government has directed local government chairmen, traditional leaders, and religious figures in high-risk areas to intensify public awareness campaigns on the dangers of approaching blast sites. Local authorities have also been instructed to cordon off affected areas and prevent residents from accessing them.

The Sokoto State Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining public safety, appealing for continued cooperation from citizens in efforts to secure the state.
