Spanish club Sevilla have officially announced the mutual termination of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract, bringing an early end to his stay at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Iheanacho, 28, still had two years left on his deal, which was due to run until June 2026, but found himself out of favour under manager Matías Almeyda, who has preferred other attacking options this season.

The Nigerian forward joined Sevilla in 2024 after leaving Leicester City, making 11 appearances and scoring three goals before being loaned to Middlesbrough in January. During his spell in the Championship, he played 15 times, registering one goal and two assists.

Returning to Spain for preseason, Iheanacho was left out of Sevilla’s opening three La Liga matchday squads, leading both parties to agree on a mutual separation.

The former Manchester City striker is now a free agent and has been heavily linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic. With his release confirmed, the Glasgow side can pursue the deal beyond the transfer deadline as they seek to bolster their forward line.
