Severe Rainstorm Floods Qinzhou City in Southern China, Stranding Over 100 Vehicles

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in Qinzhou, a city in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, submerging numerous streets and residential areas.

The intense downpour occurred on April 27, 2026, leaving more than 100 cars stranded in floodwaters. Authorities deployed several tow trucks to remove the affected vehicles, as water levels on some main roads rose above one metre.

According to the Qinzhou Meteorological Bureau, the hardest-hit area was Jiulongzhen, which recorded an extreme 362.2 mm of rainfall — making it one of the highest single-day amounts in recent years for the region.

An eyewitness described the severity of the flooding, saying: “Around that time, the water had already reached above the rear-view mirrors.”

This extreme rain event is reported to be the first major flooding incident of its kind in China this year, arriving nearly a month earlier than the usual start of the rainy season.

At the time of the latest updates, local authorities were actively carrying out drainage and pumping operations, conducting hazard inspections, clearing roads, and performing other emergency response work to reduce risks and help restore normal conditions in the affected areas.
