The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje as Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

Agbaje’s confirmation, alongside other National Commissioners of the agency, took place during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday.

The appointments followed the adoption and approval of recommendations by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, chaired by Senator Cyril Fasuyi, which screened President Bola Tinubu’s nominees.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over the proceedings, read out the names of Agbaje and other newly confirmed commissioners, who will serve on the reconstituted PenCom board.

Other confirmed commissioners include:

Hon. Hafiz Mohammed Kawu, Commissioner (Technical) representing the North West

Samuel Chigizie Nwandu, Commissioner (Inspectorate) representing the South-East

Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowate, Commissioner (Finance) representing the South-South

Bello Abubakar Malabu, Commissioner (Administration) representing the North-East

Agbaje, a banker and lawyer, was previously Chief Executive Officer of RTC Advisory Ltd and served as chairman of the Ogun State Security Trust Funds.

A seasoned policy analyst, Agbaje is also a notable newspaper columnist and television presenter, hosting the programme The Policy Council. He is the author of several books and serves as a faculty member at the Lagos Business School.
