Smart Buoys Deployed Across 35 Locations

A total of 35 locations were selected for the installation of the smart buoys.

The selection process considered environmental and technical requirements as well as the need to ensure that the equipment does not interfere with maritime navigation routes.

Priority was also given to areas experiencing significant shipping activity, particularly locations close to ports, industrial discharge points and vital coastal facilities.

The distribution of monitoring stations across different marine environments is intended to provide a broader and more representative picture of conditions along Saudi Arabia’s coastline.

More Than Half a Million Readings Every Day

One of the most significant aspects of the project is the volume of environmental information generated by the network.

The smart buoys transmit more than 20,000 readings and analyses every hour, equivalent to over half a million readings and analyses per day.

The information is sent directly to a central control room, where it can be processed and examined for unusual changes in marine environmental indicators.

This continuous stream of information gives specialists greater visibility into coastal conditions and supports faster environmental and technical decision-making.

Early Detection of Marine Pollution

Continuous monitoring could significantly improve the ability to identify environmental incidents at an early stage.
