After mounting pressure from netizens reminiscent of his vocal stance during the NDC era, rapper Sarkodie has broken his silence on the current dumsor situation in Ghana.

The award-winning musician Sarkodie, also known as Michael Owusu Addo, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the recent power outages, particularly highlighting their detrimental impact on healthcare, as seen in a viral video depicting a power outage at the Tema General Hospital.

In his reaction, Sarkodie slammed the situation as a clear case of “misplaced priorities” by those in authority.

Sharing the distressing video on his Instagram story on March 27, 2024, Sarkodie emphasized the dire consequences of neglecting essential services, especially affecting innocent infants in critical care.

The said video showcased mothers and medical staff struggling to care for babies in darkness, resorting to using phone lights and improvised methods to combat the heat in the wards.

Tragically, reports surfaced of a newborn’s death attributed to the erratic power supply at the facility, highlighting the urgent need for reliable electricity to sustain life-saving equipment in neonatal units.

While calls for a power outage timetable from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been met with dismissals from both the power distributor and the energy minister, Sarkodie’s outspoken commentary adds to the growing criticism of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government’s handling of the ongoing dumsor crisis.

Despite the ministry’s attempts to clarify remarks made by Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, discontent continues to brew online, underscoring the pressing need for effective solutions to Ghana’s power challenges.
