Sara Ali Khan says Pati Patni Aur Woh Do gave her the chance to explore comedy, chaos and emotionally grounded storytelling.

In a candid conversation with The Brew News Managing Editor Shaneer N Siddiqui, actor Sara Ali Khan opened up about her excitement for stepping into full-fledged comedy with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Reflecting on her character, the film’s chaotic humour and the challenges of working in a VFX-heavy environment, Sara shared honest insights into balancing comedy with emotional authenticity. The actor also spoke about family dynamics in the film, learning from senior co-stars and her desire to create characters that feel relatable even in exaggerated cinematic worlds.

The Brew News: What excited you most about joining Pati Patni Aur Woh Do?
Sara Ali Khan: I’ve been wanting to do comedy for a long time because I feel it’s the need of the hour. I wanted to be part of a film that makes people laugh and something families across all age groups can enjoy together. The role also felt exciting and fresh, and I believed I could bring something new to the table with this film.

The Brew News: How would you describe your character’s journey in the film?
A: My character has one clear objective throughout the film. What becomes interesting is the extent she goes to in order to achieve it and the comedy that unfolds because of her determination. She lands up creating confusion, chaos and jeopardy for everyone around her, and that’s where the humour comes from.

The Brew News: Did you relate to any aspect of your character personally?
Sara Ali Khan: I think both Chanchal and I share a certain sense of sass and self-respect. Even when asking for help, neither of us loses our agency or dignity. That inner strength is something we have in common. But her situation and the lengths she goes to are definitely not relatable to me personally.

The Brew News: What was the dynamic like working with the ensemble cast on set?
Sara Ali Khan: It was amazing. Every character was so different that there was never any overlap. Working with senior actors like Vijay Raaz, Ayesha Raza and Tigmanshu sir was such a learning experience. Just being on those sets was incredible.

The Brew News: Was there a particular scene or moment in the film that challenged you as an actor?
Sara Ali Khan: The climax was probably the most challenging because it involved a lot of VFX work. We had to imagine animals, insects and other elements that weren’t actually there on set. Reacting to stuffed toys and treating them like real creatures was definitely tricky for all of us.

The Brew News: How do you think audiences will connect with the relationships portrayed in the story?
Sara Ali Khan: The film explores many different kinds of relationships. There’s an estranged bua and niece, a married couple, college friendships, workplace camaraderie, female friendships, family bonds, and even dynamics involving politics, media and the police. I think audiences will definitely connect with several of them.

The Brew News: What did you enjoy most about the film’s tone and storytelling style?
Sara Ali Khan: The film is completely larger than life and embraces high comedy in an unapologetic way. At the same time, every character has very real stakes and emotions. It’s situational comedy set in a world I’ve never explored before, which made it especially exciting for me.

The Brew News: What do you hope viewers remember most about your character after watching the film?
Sara Ali Khan: I hope viewers feel that even within a comic genre, the character still feels real, with genuine emotions and motivations. If audiences connect with that authenticity, I’d consider it a big achievement as an actor.
