Sanlam Allianz Appoints New Non-Executive Director

Sanlam Allianz Holdings Kenya has announced the appointment of Dr. Martin Oduor Otieno as an Independent and Non‑Executive Director of the company.

In a notice dated February 10, 2026, the company stated that his appointment was based on his extensive experience in business, leadership, governance, and public service.

“The Board of Directors of Sanlam Allianz Holdings (Kenya) PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Martin Oduor Otieno as an Independent and Non-Executive Director,” read part of the notice.

Martin Oduor Current Leadership Roles

Martin Oduor is the Founder and CEO of The Leadership Group Limited, a Nairobi-based firm that trains leaders and supports organizations on governance and decision-making.

He also serves as the Group Chairman of East African Breweries Limited (EABL), one of the region’s largest companies.

In addition, he sits on the boards of BAT Kenya PLC and the African Enda Foundation, and he is the Chancellor of KCA University.

Dr. Martin Oduor holds an Honorary Doctor of Business Leadership from KCA University, an Executive MBA from ESAMI/Maastricht School of Management, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.

He further completed executive leadership training at the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme.

Dr. Oduor is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and a Fellow of several professional bodies.

He has also been honored with the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) by the Head of State for his service to national development.

Extensive Experience in the Corporate Sector

Martin Oduor previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of KCB Group from 2007 to 2012, a period during which the bank expanded and strengthened its presence across East Africa.

Before becoming CEO, he also held senior leadership roles at the bank, contributing to its growth and operational improvements.

Earlier in his career, Martin Oduor held leadership and finance roles at Barclays Bank in both Kenya and South Africa and worked at British American Tobacco Kenya.

After his time at KCB, he joined Deloitte East Africa as the Financial Services Industry Partner, providing guidance to financial institutions across the region before eventually establishing his own advisory and coaching firm, The Leadership Group Limited.

Public Service and Regional Board Roles

Otieno’s background also includes public service experience, serving as the Permanent Secretary at the National Treasury between 1999 and 2001.

During this period, he participated in key public finance and economic reforms.

His work helped strengthen financial management within the government; he served for nine years on the boards of the Standard Bank Group and the Standard Bank of South Africa and completed his term in 2025.

He is also the author of the leadership biography Beyond the Shadows of My Dream, which shares insights from his personal and professional journey.
