Ruto Tells Kenyans to ‘Relax’ Ahead of 2027 Election, Says God Will Decide the Outcome

President William Ruto implored Kenyans to stay calm ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying God will ultimately determine the result.

Speaking on Thursday, Ruto told the nation that the elections will run peacefully and remain free and fair, even as political tensions rise.

“Relax, what God has planned will happen,” he said.

Ruto added that Kenyans will hold elections that stay free from violence and remain fair.

“We will vote for a peaceful election that is free and fair. No one can change what God has decided,” he said.

The president at the same time allayed fears over the upcoming vote, insisting that Kenya’s democratic process will stay steady. “People may feel panic, but what God has decided will happen,” he said.

He further responded to questions about his chances of re-election, saying he will accept whatever God decides.

“If God decides I will serve a second term, I will. If God decides otherwise, it’s fine. Relax,” Ruto said.

Ruto additionally dismissed claims that Kenya was headed in the wrong direction and said the country stayed stable and continued making progress despite negative headlines.

Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Ruto argued that media outlets often focus on negative stories because they draw attention, even when they do not show the full picture of the nation.

“I once asked a journalist friend why it is rare to find a positive story in the media,” he said.

“My friend told me that bad news sells, but good news does not. When you read the headlines, some people run their businesses and keep progressing, but the bad news does not tell the whole story, it just helps sell the paper,” he added.

The president said many positive developments in Kenya often go unnoticed because they receive less coverage than crises and controversies.

“You won’t see good news in the headlines. I have no doubt that it does not matter what anyone writes about Kenya going in the wrong direction,” he said.

Ruto insisted Kenya remains strong and resilient, rejecting worries about instability or state failure.

“Kenya is not, and will never be, a failed state. If you read the headlines, just know that people still run their businesses, and for their businesses to succeed, they have to write about bad news because that is what sells,” he said.

“I don’t care how many headlines claim Kenya goes in the wrong direction. This country will never go in the wrong direction,” he added.

Ruto also said Kenyans should appreciate what the country continues to have.

“We have many things to thank God for, and I say that without any fear of contradiction. God has shown grace to our nation over the last three years,” he said.
