The Delta State Police Command has reacted to viral reports alleging widespread sexual assault in Ozoro, describing the situation as disturbing and unacceptable.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said: “This is alarming, disgusting and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident.”

He revealed the police’s next moves while reacting to horrific videos online depicting mobs of men attacking and dehumanizing women under the guise of their tradition which ordered that women be indoors.

Edafe added that the command strongly rejects any justification for such acts, stating, “The command condemns this in totality, no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens.”

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, has assured residents that justice will be served. “The Commissioner of Police Delta State… urges Deltans to remain calm while assuring that those responsible for this barbaric act will be arrested and brought to justice,” he said.

The police also called on members of the public to support the investigation. “The command also calls for witnesses who can provide with useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation,” Edafe stated.

The reaction follows viral posts showing that multiple girls were attacked during a so-called “festival” in Ozoro, claims that have sparked outrage and concern, particularly due to the residents in the community.
