Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way out of Al Nassr this summer after reports emerged that his contract includes a €50 million release clause.

The 40-year-old forward was notably absent from Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League fixture against Al Riyadh on Monday, with reports claiming the Portugal captain is on strike.

His absence has fuelled speculation over a potential departure when the season ends in June.

Ronaldo is understood to be weighing up his next move, with options reportedly including a switch to Major League Soccer or a sensational return to Europe.

The existence of a €50m release clause could make an exit more feasible for interested suitors.

Sources close to the situation suggest Ronaldo is unhappy with how Al Nassr have been treated by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the state-backed entity that acquired majority stakes in Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, and Al Ahli in 2023.

Ronaldo reportedly feels that PIF’s approach to squad investment has limited Al Nassr’s ability to strengthen effectively, leaving them at a disadvantage in the title race.

As frustrations grow, the coming months could prove decisive in determining whether the five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains in Saudi Arabia or seeks a new challenge elsewhere.
