Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has poked holes into President William Ruto’s ambitious pledge to transform Kenya into a First World nation, saying the promise ignores the harsh realities facing ordinary citizens.

Speaking during a church service at PCEA Kayole in Embakasi Central, Gachagua dismissed the President’s projection that Kenya could attain First World status within 20 to 30 years, describing it as “out of touch with reality.” He said that the country does not have good foundations for this kind of change and referred to failing social and economic systems to prove his point.

According to Gachagua, the education sector is overwhelmed, healthcare services are deteriorating, and the business environment remains hostile, all of which he said are contradictory to the dream of a modern, prosperous country.

He also referred to recent statements by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, who warned that the government may soon not be able to sustain free secondary education due to a shortage of funds.

Such warnings, according to Gachagua, expose deep structural and fiscal weaknesses within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“I hear Ruto saying he has a plan to elevate Kenya to a First World country. Within three years,” Gachagua remarked, casting doubt on the feasibility of the timeline.

The former Deputy President said his criticism was not driven by bitterness but by patriotism.

“I have no hard feelings or ill intentions against anyone, but I have to do the right thing. Together with other leaders, we will liberate this country,” he declared.
