Manchester United is reportedly seeking a fee upwards of €40m (£34.3m) for winger Jadon Sancho, according to recent reports.

Sancho, who joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January following a fallout with United manager Erik ten Hag, is expected to return to Old Trafford this summer as the loan deal doesn’t include an option for a permanent transfer.

However, should Erik ten Hag remain at the helm of United, Sancho may seek a permanent departure. Sky in Germany suggests that the player is keen on staying with Dortmund, a sentiment reciprocated by the German club.

The primary obstacle for Dortmund lies in the financial aspect. United secured Sancho’s services for £73m in 2021, tying him to a lucrative contract until 2025. Consequently, United is looking to recoup around half of that sum to offload Sancho.

For Dortmund, investing such a significant amount in a single player poses a challenge, especially considering they cannot match Sancho’s current wage package.

Although a permanent transfer remains a possibility, negotiations between Dortmund and United are far from reaching a resolution.

Sancho has made a positive impact at Dortmund, contributing two goals and two assists in 11 appearances. Despite initial doubts due to his prolonged stint on the sidelines, he has become a valued member of the squad.

Sancho’s future could be intertwined with that of another Dortmund winger, Donyell Malen. With two years left on his contract, Malen is reportedly eager to join the Premier League. Dortmund, considering cashing in, is demanding a similar €40m fee for Malen as well.
