English Premier League side Chelsea have put their pursuit of Spanish player of Nigerian descent, Samuel Omorodion, aside, Soccernet.ng reports.

As an alternative to Victor Osimhen, Chelsea set their sights on Omorodion, who could bolster their attack owing to his physical ability and prowess.

Despite being offered €33 million plus €7 million in potential add-ons, Atlético Madrid refused to sell, seeing the 20-year-old as crucial to their future plans.

This has shut down his consistent pursuit by the Stamford Bridge outfit who are halting their chase for the forward, per Marca.

Omorodion, speaking to Marca, revealed his intention to respect his contract with the Mattress Makers, maintaining his stay at the Metropolitano Stadium.

“Other clubs want me? My focus is on Atlético.

“I noticed that the people of Atlético supported me a lot. I also received a lot of support from the club; they told me to stay calm, that they trusted me.

“That is very gratifying for a player,” he told Marca.

Atlético Madrid, having acquired Omorodion for €6 million last season and loaned him to Alavés where he has developed considerably, are committed to retaining the promising young international.

Chelsea is now targeting experienced strikers Jonathan David from Lille and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund. These additions would enhance Chelsea’s offensive lineup, especially as they explore the possibility of loaning Marc Guiu to Sevilla.
