Real Madrid are reportedly considering Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha as a potential successor to Toni Kroos, though the club is unlikely to make any moves in the January transfer window.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side ended 2024 on a high note, winning the inaugural Intercontinental Cup by defeating Pachuca. Kylian Mbappé capped off the year in fine form, scoring five goals in his last six matches, helping Madrid climb to second place in La Liga, just one point behind Atletico Madrid.

Despite their success, Real Madrid have been plagued by injuries this season, including ACL tears for Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão, and David Alaba’s ongoing recovery from a knee injury. While Ancelotti has expressed a desire for reinforcements in January, Spanish outlet AS reports that the club has ruled out any mid-season signings.

Looking ahead to the summer, Madrid are focusing on midfield as a priority area, especially after Kroos’ retirement in June. Vitinha, a standout performer for PSG under Luis Enrique, has emerged as a key target. The 24-year-old has impressed with his ability to dictate play from deep and contribute goals from the edge of the box.

Another midfield option is Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi, a Euro 2024 winner. However, with significant Premier League interest in the 25-year-old, Madrid may face stiff competition for his signature next summer.

In defense, Madrid are exploring multiple options to address their injury woes. Bournemouth’s Spain U21 international Dean Huijsen has caught their attention after impressing in his debut Premier League season. Additionally, The Athletic reports that Madrid are considering a move for Aymeric Laporte, currently with Al Nassr, who is said to be open to a return to Europe. Younger alternatives like Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis and Napoli’s Rafa Marín, a former Madrid academy player, are also being evaluated.

While January activity seems unlikely, Real Madrid are clearly laying the groundwork for significant summer reinforcements to maintain their competitive edge.
